Hardiness Zone: 2-6 Height: 40-60 feet; 12-18 metres Spread: 10-20 feet; 3-6 metres Sun: Full sun Water: Medium Tolerates: Deer Culture: Best grown in average, medium moisture, well-drained soils in full sun. Does well in silt or clay soils. Best performance is in cold winter climates with cool summers. Noteworthy Characteristics: Picea glauca is often shallow- rooted and susceptible to being blown over, especially on thin or wet soils. Large areas of blown down spruce are prime breeding sites for the spruce beetle, which can then spread to mature trees and kill thousands of hectares of old-growth spruce.
